The Cost Question
Real talk
Everybody wants to know what a custom range hood really costs. So we went ahead and put together a costing guide for you. We laid out the pricing tiers, what moves the price up or down, and what you are really paying for when a piece is made by hand, start to finish. If you have ever wondered where a project like this even begins, this is a great place to start.
After reading, if you are wondering why those numbers are more industry wide instead of exact pricing for our hoods, it’s because we keep pricing between us and you only! That way, when a homeowner stumbles across our blog, the margin you build in for yourself stays yours to build. Your numbers are your business, and something we are here to help you protect! But, feel free to use this article with your clients so they can see what you are pushing for and why it matters.
Seen in Domino
Designer spotlight
Laura Arledge, lead designer of State Studio, created one of the loveliest kitchens we have ever had a hand in, and Domino thought so too… it is featured on their site right now! The entire space is warm and layered and full of personality, from the green tile to those incredible Moroccan lanterns. The kind of room that looks like a genuinely good life happens inside it. Builders Craft Construction brought the whole thing to life exactly the way a space like that deserves. The designer and builder are both Fort Collins locals we’ve had the pleasure of knowing for years. We could not be more proud!
We made the Box hood in Rustic Iron for it, and getting to set our piece inside a room this thoughtful was an honor. This win belongs to State Studio though… go take the full tour and see everything they pulled off.

It doesn’t stop at the kitchen!
Sometimes, on the weekends, when it is quiet and the lights are off, Stefan and I stand in our shop and look around at every tool, idea, welder, chance we took and tear we shed, and feel an absolutely overwhelming sense of gratitude for our lives and the path that brought us here. We wonder how this is still our passion and world, while also knowing it could have never been otherwise.
We started playing with metal 20 years ago, just the two of us, no agenda, in the garage of an old country church turned house. We knew nothing, but had a fearlessness that is often reserved for the young. We started with one hammer, a stack of books from Barnes and Noble, and a hand-cranked forge, to where we are today building items we are deeply proud of for your jobs, your portfolios and your clients.
It is fun to think back to when my cell phone doubled as the business phone. I answered it in the pick-up line, grabbing kids, throwing backpacks in, giving quick hugs and racing off to Michael’s for emergency diorama supplies. Our kids’ characters were built helping us wrap and package jobs in the driveway (well, Manny did most of the wrapping, Addie did most of the singing… also, she would like me to tell you she was great at it). Juggling life at that time wasn’t always easy. What do they say? “The days are long, and the years short.” But both of us had purpose as we built a family along with a business crafting the absolute best custom metal range hoods. We were swimming upstream in the age of big box stores, and we simply kept swimming.
Twenty years later, we are still completely committed to the craft, exploration and relationships as we were when we started. We’re grateful every day to all of you who have come down this road with us, inspiring us and helping us know which way to steer. Our hoods hang in kitchens in every state across the country, and a good handful over the oceans in both directions.
Every drawing you sent, every client whose name you trusted us with, every time you picked us again and believed in us… gave us the chance to get better, bolder and more capable for ourselves and for you. Raw Urth is your tool, as the hammer was originally ours. This story is the sum of all of us growing, creating and learning together. Thank you for keeping us in your story, and letting us spend our days doing what we love, year after year.
From our corner of the Urth,
Amy + Stefan
P.S. You are welcome to dive deeper into the ever-evolving journal of our story, the one I (Amy) add a new chapter to every few years, with what we’ve learned, how we’ve grown, and the problems we solved along the way. It’s not a standard About Us page. It’s a personal, open-book account of who we are and what we believe, because human to human is the whole point.
